The care my mother-in-law receives at Brook House has been amazing. The staff show genuine kindness and compassion to her – and also to us. It has made what was a difficult decision so much easier and has given us confidence and reassurance. I cannot speak highly enough of Brook House and the staff.

Maple House - Care Home Learning Disabilities
The service had processes in place to ensure people’s end of life care was in line with their wishes or if they were unable to make the decision it was made in their best interest. The Willows is relaxed and friendly, but the carers have things very much in hand. Staff always greet you with a smile and are genuinely pleasant and friendly with the residents. Management is always accessible and always take time to help relatives and visitors through a process which can be very difficult. I am extremely impressed by the care offered to my mother. All the staff know me by name and show so much care for the residents.

Claudia, Rosaleen, Laura, Jo and Shane have been working 7 days a week to get the vaccine out to healthcare workers and vulnerable groups as fast as possible... News of the closure, while not yet fully in the public domain, has caused deep shock in the county town and, indeed right across the county. Cuan Chaitrions had established a reputation as a high quality nursing home. The Sisters of Mercy were due to meet yesterday with staff to discuss the plans for closure. Michael Kilcoyne has written to Sr Elizabeth Manning, offering his services as a mediator. We spoke with people using the service and family members during our inspection.
A rolling programme of activities, at the service and in the local community, was accessible to people who used the service. The service had introduced a number of initiatives to ‘normalise’ people’s experience, including setting up a barber shop, café and cinema. Staff were aware of people’s interests and what activities they enjoyed. During this inspection we saw people’s needs and care plans had been reviewed. They provided staff with detailed instructions about how to support the person to meet their needs, and maintain their dignity and welfare.
Infection prevention and control
I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a residential home, for the staff alone in their caring attitude. Dovecote Manor's staff and management made myself and Mum very welcome. They take good care of Mum, reassuring her about things she is anxious about and they always do their best to sort out any problems quickly. Staff are friendly, caring and support the family when you need it.
We received mostly positive comments about the care and support provided, with people saying they felt well looked after. However, we observed that some processes in place did not always respect a person’s privacy and people were not always treated with respect and compassion. We observed during handover that discussions about people’s care were had where other people could overhear the conversation. People who used the service told us they liked the staff.

They know her so well - she can be difficult - but they maintain a professional and compassionate approach to her care. There are great activities provided by a dedicated team which add to my mother's experience as well as a family. Although my mother dreaded leaving her own house, she settled into Primrose Croft very happily. The staff were, without exception, so warm, welcoming, kind, caring and thoughtful. There is a really happy atmosphere here that contributes so much to residents feeling safe and secure, relaxed and contented. We do our best to provide a home from home for all our residents.
We have high-speed broadband and access to iPads and tablets for keeping in touch with family & friends, whenever suits. The closure would also lead to the 20 residents of the home seeking new centres. Various aspects of people's care, including weight monitoring and fluids intake, were well documented. Staff were responsive to people’s needs and responded quickly when people required help or support. During our inspection on 4 June 2014 we found that some practices did not respect a person’s privacy and choice.
This inspection took place on 20 and 31 October 2016 and was unannounced. Castlebar Nursing Home is a nursing home that is registered to provide accommodation and personal care for up to 63 people, some of whom are frail and live with dementia. At the time of the inspection there were 57 people living at the service. The director of nursing Claire O'Connor leads the caring team of 12 nurses and 24 healthcare assistants, supported by the activities coordinator, chefs and household staff. We are very happy with the nursing care my mother receives.
It has 34 spacious single bedrooms and 4 double bedrooms, all with large en-suite bathrooms. Thank you all sincerely for my stay with you and the wonderful help and kindness... The registered provider used evidence-based practice and completed their own research to improve the lives of people. Staff celebrated people’s lives in a unique way that made them feel extra special. The care people received at the end of their lives was outstanding. End of life care at the service was compassionate and empathetic that showed all people who lived and died at the service mattered.
Visitors should not enter the care home if they are feeling unwell, even if they have tested negative for COVID-19 and are fully vaccinated and have received their booster. Transmissible viruses such as flu, respiratory syncytial virus and norovirus can be just as dangerous to care home residents as COVID-19. It is as much like their own homes as it can possibly be. The garden looks beautiful and it is so nice for families to sit out there with their relatives when visiting. The memory tree is a lovely idea and my mum likes to see my dad’s lantern when we are out there. Although my mother was only in Aliwal Manor for a very short time, the service and care she received was excellent and we could not have asked for more.
People were able to reminisce past memories and create new fond memories through the taking part in those activities. Staff welcomed and celebrated diversity at the service, this demonstrated that all people were of importance.
